Outdoor Reading + Leftovers

Hi friends! It seems like I haven’t shared a day in the life style post in so long! I mean it has been about 2 weeks now haha so that is kind of a long time. Have a great day πŸ™‚

A few weeks ago, I shared that Bailey was acting as our alarm clock at 5 am or earlier during the week. We left the crate door open last night and she wasn’t crazy super early, yay! Alex and I think she may have just been sick of her crate at night so that’s why she would bark at us. The extra sleep was much needed so I woke up feeling pretty refreshed. Once I was ready for work, I made my usual breakfast of scrambled eggs and a muffin.

Nuts And Yogurt

This week, my appetite has been huge. Maybe it’s because I was eating more junk food than normal last week but I’ve been hungry so much in the afternoons. In my attempt to not snack all night, I packed some peanuts and cashews to enjoy with my afternoon yogurt. Considering I didn’t go home and immediately break out chips and salsa, I’ll consider it a win.

The Atomic City Girls

When I got home, Bailey and I went for a walk and then I grabbed my book to read outside. I started reading The Atomic City Girls by Janet Beard and it’s excellent. It’s a historical fiction novel set in World War II about June, an 18 year old who goes to Oak Ridge, Tennessee, a city that doesn’t officially exist. She goes to work but has no idea what her job does. June adjusts knobs to keep them in the range they are supposed to be in. She eventually meets a physicist, Doctor Sam Cantor, who lives and works in Oak Ridge with her. It’s related to the Manhattan Project and there’s even black and white pictures at the end of each chapter that the Department of Energy gave. I wish I could just read all day to see what happens.

Ribs, roaste potatoes and green beans

For dinner, we kept it easy with leftovers from Sunday night at Alex’s parents house. I roasted some potatoes and made green beans to go along with our ribs. To end our night, we watched an episode of The Keepers on Netflix. It’s a docuseries on students who are looking into the murder of a nun that was a teacher at their school. We’re on ely through 2 episodes but love it. Then I got ready for bed and read some more before calling it a night.

Question of the day: Are you a fan of leftovers?

Puppy Alarm Clock + Pizza

Hi friends! How are you doing? As I write this it is absolutely pouring out. The roof is getting absolutely pounded at work. It’s crazy! As long as the rain ends before the weekend though then I won’t complain. Hopefully the sun is shining by you! Have a great day πŸ™‚

Once again Bailey acted like our alarm clock at 5 am to wake us up. For some reason, I feel like she is suddenly freaked out by our alarms because that’s when she starts going crazy. It definitely works to get me out of bed though! After getting ready for the day, I scrambled eggs to have for breakfast. Plus a muffin, because carbs πŸ˜‰

During lunch, I read more of Before We Were Yours. It’s such a good book! It’s the story of Avery who is a politicians grown daughter who is with her father at a nursing home when one of the residents, May, acts as if she knows Avery. May has a picture in her room that contains someone who looks exactly like her grandmother. When Avery visits her grandmother to inquire about May, her grandmother acts perfectly coherent despite having dementia and living in a nursing home. Avery goes on the hunt to figure out the family’s connection with May. I feel like I’m finally getting to the best part and I can’t wait to find out what happens.

Epsom Salt

After work, I changed and headed out for 5 easy recovery miles. My hips were feeling a little achy so I stretched and foam rolled before hopping into an epsom salt bath. It was much needed! I think epsom salt baths need to become a normal part of my routine. Honestly I have no idea if it actually helps but it feels good so why not keep doing it right?

We were still on the leftovers train last night which meant more pizza for dinner! I just threw it in the oven to warm it up and then enjoyed it while we watched an episode of Billions. Alex and I just finished the second season and man it is good! The season ended with certain things wrapped up enough but still a lot of questions for you. It was a good one.

Alex and I hung out a bit then decided to turn on Coco. Unfortunately I started to doze just a tiny bit so I decided to get ready for bed and read a bit more before calling it a night.

Question of the day: If you have a dog, does it act like an alarm clock for you?

Couples Who Run Together

Hi friends! How was your Monday? I hope it wasn’t too bad for you. I have to say my Monday was pretty good as you’ll see below. Have a great day πŸ™‚

Bailey acted as our alarm clock yesterday morning by letting us know she needed to go out asap at 5 am. Alex took her out while I laid in bed before getting some puppy kisses and getting up. One I was all ready for work, I quickly scrambled up some eggs for breakfast and paired it with an oatmeal muffin.

The work day felt like it flew by and before I knew it, I was eating lunch. I finished up The Flight Attendant. It’s the story of Cassie, a flight attendant who wakes up next to a passenger in Dubai that has been murdered. Cassie was drinking the night before and partially blacks out. She has never been violent and thinks she didn’t kill the man but with her memory not all there she can’t fully remember. It was a good and quick thriller which I haven’t read in a while.

In the afternoon, I texted Alex to see if he was running later. He said he wasn’t sure so I asked if he would want to run with me on my recovery run. He said yes!! I was pumped! When I got home, we both changed and headed out the door for 4 miles. It was nice to be able to chat with someone on a run instead of just be stuck in my own head with my thoughts. I vote Alex should run with me on recovery days from now on, even if it’s just for a few miles instead of the whole thing.

Pasta with Italian Sausage

Dinner was really fancy last night. The name of the game for meals this week is “Use up anything that will go bad while we are out of town” so I had leftover spaghetti and sausage. I topped it with some fresh basil, marinara sauce and cheese. It was delicious and hit the spot. It ended up not being a ton of food so I had a banana with peanut butter as well.

Alex and I watched and episode of Billions and then I read for the rest of the night. I started Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate. I’m not too far into it but it’s told from the present day perspective through Avery as well as in the 1930s through Rill. Once I read more I’ll have a better understanding of it. I think Avery and Rill’s story are somehow connected but I can’t be sure. Once I fell asleep on the couch, I figured I should head to bed.

Question of the day: Do you ever workout with your significant other?

Sunday In Pictures Vol. 36

Happy Monday! How was your weekend? Honestly I feel like this one absolutely flew by. It was crazy because it feels like I just left work and now I’m back at my desk. Not much you can do about it though. In typical Monday fashion, I’m sharing my Sunday in pictures. Have a great day πŸ™‚

Waffles and Bacon

Waffles and bacon was the perfect way to ease into the day.

Carpet Cleaner

Since we’re really cool people in our early 20s, we rented a carpet cleaner from Home Depot to clean our carpets since I spilled iced tea early last week and there was a giant stain…

Leftover deli sandwich and carrots for lunch.

Blueberry Oatmeal Muffins

While I folded laundry, a batch of oatmeal muffins baked away.

Bailey and I went for a walk and she got all of the sniffs in.

I snacked on a handful of blueberries.

Since the sun was out, I read more of The Flight Attendant by Chris Bohjalian outside on the deck.

Alex’s friend was in town so I made some pizza for dinner while he was over.

Question of the day: What’s one highlight from your weekend?

Outdoor Reading + Odd Dinner Combo

Hi friends! How are you today? I’ll admit, I’m feeling very tired for some reason. Luckily, I’m armed with a mug of tea for a little boost and the knowledge that tomorrow is Friday. Have a great day πŸ™‚

We got a pretty solid storm on Tuesday night so I was hopeful the humidity would drop. When I took Bailey out yesterday morning, I was sad to find it was still pretty humid. Bailey didn’t seem phased and trotted around a bit before we headed back inside to finish getting ready for the day. Alex made breakfast and fried up some eggs for me.

After getting back to the office from lunch, I found a coworker with a plate of empanadas that his wife made. You guys…it was so dang good!! His wife is Puerto Rican so the spices were on point. Honestly it was a good thing I had already eaten at home while I hung out with Bailey. If that was my actual lunch, I probably would’ve eaten a dozen of them.

Alex was in Philly all day so after work, it was just Bailey and I. Once she ate, we leashed up and headed out for a walk. We were out for about 30 minutes or so and it reminded me that we need to switch up where we walk Bailey. She was all over the place with her sniffing haha. When we got back, we grabbed water, a toy, and book to head outside to read. The humidity had seemed to drop and it was 2198653 degrees so sitting outside was enjoyable. I read more of Little Fires Everywhere.

Eventually I started to get hungry so I headed inside to make dinner. I wasn’t really feeling an intense dinner so I opted for easy to make things. First up was a little tortilla pizza with some olive oil, mozzarella cheese, fresh basil and crushed red pepper. While that was in the oven to melt the cheese, I started on a smoothie bowl. Into the blender went a frozen banana, riced cauliflower, frozen blueberries, acai puree, peanut butter, chia seeds and milk. When I sat down to eat it I realized how odd of a combination it was with a sweet smoothie and savory/spicy pizza. Oh well! It worked and I enjoyed it.

The rest of the night was pretty relaxing. I read some more, Bailey and I played fetch and watched the Great British Baking Show. For whatever reason, I felt like baking but a look at the clock to see it was 8:45 made me change my plan a bit for a no bake peanut butter cookie. The recipe came from Gemma at Bigger Bolder Baking and it was a winner! On half of them, I put some dark chocolate chips that I had in the cabinet and I would say to skip those. The plain peanut butter was better in my opinion.

After eating my cookies, I cleaned up and then got in bed to watch some Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. I must have fallen asleep because I woke up to Alex in our room. We caught up a bit on our days and then I fell back asleep for good.

Question of the day: Do you ever have some odd dinner cobinations when you feel a little lazy?
