A Surprise Baseball Game

Happy Saturday friends! Sorry for the slightly late post. Alex and I had our second date night in the past three days last night so I was tired when we got home and wanted to head to bed. Have a wonderful day 🙂

Scrambled Eggs and Bacon

Friday started off pretty good. After getting ready for the day, Alex and I realized we had time for bacon so we made some to have with our eggs for breakfast. Bacon starts any day on a good note.

At work, I started reading Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng. It’s the story of the Richardsons who have four kids and live in a suburb of Cleveland. The story starts out with the tenant in their rental house leaving in the middle of the night and the youngest child sets the house on fire the next day. Rewind a year when the tenants moved in and somehow that leads to little fires everywhere in the house. So far so good through the first 5 chapters.

When I got home from work, I had some packages waiting for me so I tried all the dresses on while Alex had a work call. Once that was done, I made some homemade ice cream for a dinner we have tonight (hopefully it freezes well and tastes like ice cream!) before we headed into the car. Alex called me Thursday afternoon while both of us were at work, which is unusual, and he simply asked “Do we have plans Friday night?” I responded no and he said great we’re going on a date and hung up. The first stop was dinner at Hoagie Haven in Princeton. It’s one of Alex’s favorites and it hit the spot.

We got in the car and started driving to Trenton which is somewhere we never go. The entire way, I was guessing potential places and he said no to all of them. I actually guessed right though with a baseball game! The weirdest part was I had a dream that we were going to a baseball game and I never remember my dreams, it’s like we had ESP about it or something lol. Apparently a girl he went to high school with posted on Instagram that she had tickets but couldn’t go. Naturally Alex slid into her DM’s to snatch them for us haha. The Trenton Pork Rolls, formerly Trenton Thunder, is the minor league team for the Yankees. For all we know, we watched the next Derek Jeter play last night!

It ended up being absolutely beautiful for a game. The seats were basically behind home plate and we chatted while sipping on a beer as big as our head during it. Seriously, the beer was huge. The atmosphere was very kid friendly and the family behind us had two little boys that were providing us with some funny entertainment during it. Overall the game was really well until the 9th inning. It was tied 2-2 when the Erie Seawolves scored 3 points on one hit. We decided the Pork Rolls probably weren’t going to win it and headed home to bed instead.

Question of the day: Are you a baseball fan?

Impromptu Date Night + Costco Members

Happy Friday Eve! A part of me is shocked that it’s already Thursday but then I realize I’ve had a semi busy week so far so it totally makes sense. June is basically a marathon month over here so it makes sense this week is flying by for us.

Yesterday had a few fun items take place. I hope you had something fun happen yesterday as well! Have a great day 🙂

Wednesday started out pretty normal. Wake up, lay in bed a bit, take Bailey out and feed her before getting ready for work. Breakfast should come as no surprise that it was eggs and a muffin. I’ve been eating this combination since January or February so it’s probably a miracle I’m not sick of them yet.

Alex was working from home because a technician was coming to look at our refrigerator. Last week, water that was supposed to be going to the ice maker decided to flood our fridge and freezer instead… It was just as much fun to clean up as it sounds. As I was getting ready to head home to eat lunch with him, he called to say abort mission since the technician was almost there. So I grabbed my Nook and read during work instead. I finished The Lucky Ones and really liked it. Check back tomorrow for a bit more in depth review on it.

Costco Membership Card

After work was when the fun really got started. Last week I saw that Groupon had a Costco membership deal going on, (and still is available here if you are interested!). For the price of the lower membership ($60), you got a $20 Costco gift card. I finally bit the bullet and bought it so headed there to redeem it. While redeeming it, I ended up paying the difference and upgrading to the higher membership to get some rebate bonuses on it. Plus if we don’t use it then I can return for the lower and get my money back. Gotta love Costco’s return policy! The timing couldn’t have been better either since we needed some toilet paper and paper towels so I could grab those, plus a few other random things, while there. Y’all…having this membership will be dangerous for me!! I was walking around the store going “Oh this looks good” and “We will definitely need to try that”.

Fried Pickles From Harvest Moon

When I was walking out of the store, Alex called and asked if I wanted to meet him for dinner in New Brunswick since he was meeting a client there for drinks. We went back and forth on going out or just having burgers at home but decided an impromptu date night was the better option. We actually went back to Harvest Moon. Any longtime readers may recognize this restaurant since it’s where we had our first date. If you want a good laugh I highly recommend reading about our first date. It’s almost a miracle Alex and I are still dating after that disaster lol. Obviously we had to start with some fried pickles.

Hanger Steak From Harvest Moon

There was actually a 3 course meal that was the same price as the entree I was thinking about getting so I ended up getting that. It started with a ceasar salad that had toasted sunflower seeds on it. I wasn’t sure about that when I saw it on the menu but it ended up being really good. For dinner, I ordered the hanger steak which came with pepperjack whipped potatoes, broccoli, and some sort of spicy sauce on the bottom of the plate. So good!! The spices were perfect on everything. Alex and I both commented that Harvest Moon always nails presentation for the entrees. Alex ordered a pork chop and he ate the entire thing. I think just some sauce remained on his plate.

Creme Brulee From Harvest Moon

We were both a tad tired and kind of wanted to just bring dessert back home with us but they can’t make creme brulee to go. Not a big deal so we split the dish. Personally, I think creme brulee can be hit or miss depending on the crust on top but this was the perfect layer of it. After we all but licked the plate clean, we headed home. We played with Bailey a bit before heading to bed after a wonderful date.

Question of the day: If you have a Costco membership, what’s one thing we have to try?

Bonus question: Do you have a chocolate ice cream recipe that does not require an ice cream maker? We’re going to Alex’s coworkers house for dinner and his young daughter asked for chocolate ice cream as dessert. Help!

Running, Napping, Derbying, And Date Night, Oh My!

Happy Sunday! I’m coming at you a little late today since yesterday was packed pretty full. Have a great day 🙂

I ran yesterday! For the first time in a week, I laced up my shoes and headed out. I didn’t have a plan at all and ended up getting 4 miles in. They felt hard though! I don’t know  if it was because I hadn’t run in a while or since it was hotter than it has been but man it was hard to get those 4 miles in. Even with that, I was glad to just get out and move.

When I got home, Bailey and Alex were still in bed so they got up and moving. We headed for a little family walk. Since it was nice, we ended up driving to some soccer fields to let Bailey run around for a while. By the time we made it home, we were hungry so breakfast was a must. I scrambled some eggs and Alex made bacon for us.

Once everything was cleaned up, we said goodbye to Bailey and went to do some shopping. We both needed a few clothing items and managed to pick up Mother’s Day gifts for both our moms so that was a pretty successful trip. When we got home, it was time for lunch. I used leftover BBQ chicken from earlier in the week and threw it in a quesadilla then paired it with some salsa verde. The salsa was necessary to tie the flavors together. I also had some carrots and hummus to munch on as well.

We watched an episode of The Office and somehow I fell asleep. I thought that was going to be the end of my napping but nope. I spent the entire afternoon napping on and off for some reason. I was a fairly productive though and went through all of my shorts to see what did and didn’t fit me. Then it was time to change and head out for a Kentucky Derby party.

Alex’s brother Tucker and his fiance Allison have a Kentucky Derby party every year. We headed over for a bit to watch the race. They had some mint julep for the Debry and margaritas for Cinco De Mayo which was cute. I snacked on some chips and salsa before the race. Alex and I had Firenze Fire and Enticed but neither horse even made it in the top 3 unfortunately so we lost in the little pool that happened. We said our goodbyes and headed to date night.

Alex made a reservation for us at this cute little Italian restaurant called Lola Restaurant. It was a tiny little place but super cute inside. When I looked at the menu nothing really jumped out to me unfortunately. But I knew whatever I ordered was going to be good and I was right. I ordered fettuccini pesto which had grilled chicken and sundried tomatoes in a pesto cream sauce. So good and I felt like I didn’t even make a dent in the bowl even though I ate a ton. Alex got the seafood combination with linguini in a white sauce and he really enjoyed his meal as well.

When they cleared our dinner plates, Alex asked for the dessert menu. We split the lava cake which was interesting. Normally I feel like the lava part is on the inside but they just put some fudge on top of the cake. It was still good just different to us though and the dessert plate was empty between the two of us haha. When we got home, we hung out with Bailey on the couch before going to bed.

Question of the day: Did you watch the Kentucky Derby yesterday?

Belated Valentine’s Day Date

Hello and happy Sunday! How is your weekend so far? Today I’m checking in with a full heart and belly. Yesterday was busy in a good way for me. I hope you’re having a great weekend!

Saturday started nice and early at 6:15 so I could get an early start on my long run. After less week’s less than stellar 8 miles, I decided to take it just one mile at a time this week. From the first few steps, I could tell it would be a good one. 8 easy miles at a 10:03 pace to start the day! I saw one other person the entire time I was running and they were walking there dog. It was awesome to get be alone in the early morning, anyone else feel that way about weekend runs?

When I got home, I stretched and foam rolled before hopping in the shower. I had to go grocery shopping so I made some scrambled eggs to get something in my stomach before heading out. I didn’t want to over buy because I was hungry. By the time I got home, put all the groceries away and read a long chapter in my book it was time for lunch. Alex and I decided to use some coupons at Subway to get some sandwiches before we both ran more errands. I got a turkey sandwich with pepperjack cheese, lettuce, spinach, green peppers, cucumber and pickles plus a little mustard and chipotle sauce on it. Delicious and filling before getting my hair cut.

I got home from my appointment and tried to touch my hair as little as possible ha! The woman who cut my hair blow dried it all nice and I didn’t want to ruin it so I made some tea and read on the couch. I ended up finishing Celeste Ng’s novel Everything I Never Told You. It’s the story of a Chinese American family in the 1970s who live in a small town in Ohio. The middle child, Lydia, is found dead in a lake. As one would expect, the family dynamic changes as each of member has to grasp with their new reality and learn to accept what happened. Overall it’s good. All of the themes are very hidden and subtle which I enjoyed. Personally I don’t love in your face themes. A great family drama read if you are interested in dramas.

Finally it was time to get ready for our date! Alex and I decided to celebrate Valentine’s Day a few days late instead of on the 14th. We opted for a new to me Italian place (Alex had been there before and enjoyed it) so I was pretty excited. I got all dolled up and made him take a picture before we left.

The food was so stinking good you guys!! When we arrived, they put a little plate of bread with some red sauce on top to start us off which was awesome as we sipped on our wine. It was BYOB so I grabbed a bottle of white earlier in the day. Once we placed the order for our entrees, the waiter came back with this plate full of an awesome light fluffy bread thingy that was on the house last night. We dined on that and some spicy calamari (I eat only the super breaded pieces). Finally the entrees…yum. I ordered the pappardelle alla vodka which was pappardelle pasta sauteed with prosciutto in a vodka cream sauce and Alex had the linguine scoglio which came with shrimp, mussels and clams in a garlic, olive oil and white wine sauce. We both kept complimenting the food the entire time.

We decided to splurge and split a dessert. The 3 chocolate mousse was so good! It was milk and white chocolate mousses topped with a light and creamy dark chocolate. Then the plate had some melted chocolate and whipped cream to eat as well. I wish I had another piece as I type this… The rest of the night was spent in front of a fire (it randomly starting snowing a ton!), exchanging gifts and hanging out. It was a fantastic Valentine’s Day date to me 🙂

Question of the day: How did you celebrate Valentine’s Day?

Double Digit Run, A Pedicure, And A Date

Happy Sunday! How is your weekend so far?! I’m a little happy right now since I’m typing this up Saturday morning and definitely still have some endorphins in my system from my run I did. So if part of it is crazy and all over the place then you know why lol. Have a wonderful day 🙂

My Saturday started off while my alarm beeping at 6:30. I slept for an extra 10 minutes then made myself get up otherwise I would be late. I had a 10 mile run on the schedule. To be honest, I was pretty nervous since it was only the second double digit run and the first was my race back in October. Well I shouldn’t have been nervous because it went super well. Since I was out early, I popped in a single headphone so I could still be aware of my surroundings and got lost in my music. I did stop quickly to snap a picture as the sun was coming up because I love the look of it over fields.

After my run, I quickly stretched and had to hop in the shower. Alex was a gem and pulled out some workout clothes for me to throw on. I had a much needed pedicure appointment with Alex’s twin and his brother’s fiance. It was a good thing they don’t care how I look because I was basically running out the door when they pulled up. I got the prettiest mauve color from Essie called angora cardi.

When I got home I actually showered (the first one was just a rinse so I didn’t completely stink 😉 and then got ready. I plopped on the couch to read some more. Eventually it was time for lunch so I made a grilled cheese and had it with chips and salsa. Then Alex and I finished Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales before it was time to get ready to go.

Earlier in the week, I mentioned to Alex how we should bring back our monthly date night since the holidays were over. I planned for us to go to Topgolf so once we were ready we headed north to go. Well it was packed and the wait was 2 hours…so we didn’t go. While we drove back south, we decided that since we were out why not just do an early dinner in Princeton. It was fairly early so Winberie’s in Princeton wasn’t crowded. I started off with a cocktail called Washington’s Spiced Apple. It had some apple vodka, Jack Daniel’s fire, ginger beer, lime and one more ingredient that I can’t remember. So tasty!

We got poutine for an appetizer that was so good! I wish I knew exactly what spice they put on the fries for it since it was so tasty. For my meal, I got the hickory burger with chips. It was really good. I told Alex before we got the food that I wanted to cut the burger in half and bring one part home for leftovers. I stuck to it and now I have lunch for some point this week – score! Alex got the bistro filet that he raved about. Apparently the gorgonzola mashed potatoes were a big hit.

When we got home, I pulled out a favorite beer of mine that I picked up at the store earlier in the day. Goose Island is a Chicago brewery that has some different beers and a root beer as well that’s fairly popular for restaurants. If you like lighter beers, I recommend trying 312 from them! I sipped on it while Alex and I hung out and chatted on the couch. He has this deck of cards called Heart to Heart that his mom gave him years ago. It has a bunch of questions that you take turns answering. It was fun and something different to do with our night.

Question of the day: Have you ever tried to go on a date/out with friends and then have the plans change last minute because of a long wait?
