Weekly Obsessions XVI

Hello and happy Friday! How are you all doing today? It’s Friday so I’m feeling pretty good myself. The past week has been pretty good but there’s nothing like the weekend.

I’m kicking off the last few hours of work by sharing a few items I’ve been obsessed with this week. Have a great Friday 🙂

The Girl You Left Behind by Jojo Moyes

If you saw yesterday’s post then you probably aren’t surprised that this showed up on the list this week! The novel is about a painting that was done by a French artist of his wife, Sophie. She brings the painting from Paris to her hometown in France during World War I. The town ends up being occupied by Germans. Fast forward to 2006 and a widow, Liv, has the painting in her house. The artist’s family wants the painting back and goes through an organization that specializes in the requisition of stolen or lost works of art.

One of the biggest reasons that I liked this story is because I feel like you mostly hear about stolen works of art form World War II but it happened during WWI as well. Historical fiction is a genre that I love and when the story is interwoven between two time periods I can’t get enough. Jojo Moyes is also the author of Me Before You so if you enjoyed that popular book then I recommend checking this one out as well!

A week or so ago, I noticed strawberries were on sale at the grocery store so I picked them up just hoping they would be ripe. I have no idea when strawberry season is but I think it’s now because the berries I’ve been buying are delicious! For a midmorning snack at work, I’ve been cutting up a few strawberries and putting them in a container.

Spring Plants

Pink Tree At Tamarron

I have no idea what type of tree this is to be honest but I love the pop of pink it adds to everything! These trees are all over our apartment complex which makes walks and runs fun. It’s not just these trees though, when I drive I see other flowers blooming. It’s been putting a big smile on my face because it means spring is officially here!

My Top 10 Favorite Foods

Happy hump day friends! I hope your week is going well so far. A few weeks ago, I saw Erinn write about her top 10 favorite foods which seemed like a fun idea to me. So today I’m sharing with you my top 10 favorite foods. Well my top 10 as of right now because they could change. Enjoy 🙂

Fresh Blackberries

  1. Fresh from the farm fruit – there’s something so much better about fruit straight from a farm or apple orchard than when it’s bought at the grocery store

2. Peanut butter – I can eat spoonfuls of it!

3. Pizza

4. Italian beef – a Chicago staple

5. Popcorn

6. Ice Cream – especially chocolate peanut butter flavored

7. Fresh baked bread

8. Buffalo chicken

9. Chicken Caesar salad

10. Roasted potatoes

It was so hard just picking 10 foods! I had so many that I could have put so maybe I’ll check back in a few months down the road if my list has changed.

Question of the day: What’s one of your favorite foods?

Weekly Obsessions

Weekly Obsessions XV

Happy Fri-yay! I’m pretty excited for this week since the weather is supposed to be nice and I’m definitely ignoring that there’s a chance of rain this weekend. Slowly my allergies/cold/whatever the heck hit me have gone away so fingers crossed I don’t sit on the couch all weekend either.

I’m sharing a few things that I’ve been obsessed with this week today. Tell me something that you’ve been obsessed with this week down in the comments. Have a great day 🙂

IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream

I bought a tiny trial size of this cream in March of 2017 to bring with me to Europe and loved it. Then I bought a big tube when I got home and just kind of forgot about it. When Alex and I were cleaning our bedroom a few weeks ago, I discovered the almost empty full size tube and said I should just finish it since I bought it. Since starting back up with it I have no idea why I stopped using it in the first place. It’s so good! It’s a medium to full coverage cream that is light on the skin. The product lasts all day on my skin and has held up fairly well to lots of nose blowing too.

Where They Found Her by Kimberly McCreight

Since Alex asked me to read The Fountainhead, I wasn’t really enjoying reading. Not that there was anything wrong with the book! It just hadn’t grabbed my attention like my typical books do. To get back into reading, I took a break from The Fountainhead and found this one in my stash of books to read. It has me hooked!

The story follows Molly who had a stillborn child and moved to the suburbs of New Jersey with her husband and their young daughter. She is working as a reporter for the local paper and gets a call from her boss one morning saying a body has been found near the outskirts of the towns prestigious university. When Molly gets to the crime scene, she finds out the body belongs to a small baby girl. The story follows Molly trying to deal with the emotional distress of covering a topic that caused her to get depressed while a few other characters have some plot lines in the book as well.

Chats With Dad

I was talking to my Dad last night about a few things and I kind of forget how nice calls to the family are. Don’t take this as we never talk, our family group message is used at least once of day! Sometimes though, it’s easier to just text my Dad instead of calling him since he travels for work and I never know if he’s traveling or even what timezone he’s in haha. When we were talking last night it made me so excited for our trip to Chicago that’s coming up.

Last Minute Ice Cream Date

It was over 90 degrees in New Jersey yesterday. Yes you read that correctly – 90 degrees in May! After dinner, Alex suggested a family trip to the ice cream place in town. You don’t have to twist my arm for that 😉 We leashed up Bailey and drove over. There were a decent amount of people and Bailey was too busy sniffing to try and lay down or sit while we ate so we brought the ice cream home. It was fun to just randomly go out and get something sweet on a hot night. I got Fly Fishing Fudge which was vanilla ice cream with chocolate chunks, M&Ms, cookie dough pieces and chocolate swirls in it. I picked the name on a whim but it was delicious! Alex got Mint on Maine which was mint chocolate chip and oh so tasty too.

Weekly Obsessions XIV

Happy Friday! Sorry for no post yesterday you guys. I ended up getting a new phone Wednesday so my day was pretty boring since my night was mostly spent get my phone set up. Thank you to everyone who gave me suggestions of getting my pictures off the broken one! I ended up accidentally finding them in the “Memories” section of the photos app and was beyond excited when I stumbled upon them. If you asked Alex he may say I said “I can’t believe I got them!” approximately 38963 times. Just like that you’re caught up on my oh so exciting life 😉

In true Friday fashion, I’m sharing some things I’ve been obsessed with this week with you all.

Fried Eggs

This will probably surprise you all but I have not had scrambled eggs in a week. I’ve been having fried eggs and loving them. Personally I don’t like the taste of egg whites and runny yolks freak me out so I break the yolk and try to spread it around the egg. Alex and I have been making fried eggs for breakfast all week. I like topping mine with salt, pepper and hot sauce.

Social Media Detox

The downside to my phone breaking this week was that I couldn’t communicate with anyone unless I was carrying my laptop around the apartment. Don’t get me wrong, I did it and was grateful that iMessage is on Macbooks but I felt a little ridiculous. The benefit of not having a phone was getting a little bit of a social media detox. When I couldn’t go onto any social media and just mindless scroll, I realized how if I’m bored then that’s what I’ll do. Not having the ability to do that made me feel good and I’m going to try to keep the streak going where I don’t just sit on the couch and mindlessly scroll.

Sitting On The Balcony

The apartment Alex and I live in is on the second floor so we have a little balcony to sit on. Last year we never got patio furniture for it and whenever I wanted to sit outside I would carry out a chair from our dining room table. Then if Alex and I wanted to enjoy a glass of wine we would awkwardly stand out there and anyone at the park could see us haha. Last Friday, we went to Target and ended up buying two chairs and a little table. I’m pretty sure we’ve sat outside every night that Alex has been home early from work. The weather is perfect for it now and it’s so nice to be able to unwind at the end of the day.

Generation X Not Millenials Article

If you read the news at all, then you’ve probably seen countless articles about how millenials are technology obsessed, changing the way we work and ruining the world. This article summarizes a study that was done to show how it’s actually Generation X (those born between 1965 – 1981) are changing the nature of work. Gen X, which is considered the forgotten middle child according to the author, is in more leadership roles now in the work force and how they are leveraging technology to change the nature of work. It’s pretty interesting since I thought that it would have been millenials doing these things.

Weekly Obsessions XIII

Happy Friday! I’m pretty ecstatic for the weekend because it’s supposed to be in the 60s both days so you can’t beat that weather for April. Alex and I don’t have anything major planned but I think it will be a fun weekend nonetheless. Have a great day 🙂

Hilarious Article

Screen Shot 2018-04-19 at 12.41.24 PM

I don’t remember where I came across this Buzzfeed article but I stumbled upon it and it cracked me up. It’s 21 stories from Tumblr that had me laughing the entire time. Each of the stories is so funny. If you want a good laugh to kick off your day you should read this article.

Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins

When I say I’ve had one of these every night I’m not kidding. I have never baked with bananas before but Alex requested this recipe that his mom used to make. I took a picture of the recipe when we were at his parents last week and made them Sunday. Holy moly…these are AMAZING!! I’m kicking myself for not taking pictures while baking them so I could share the recipe with y’all. Guess this means I have to bake them again 😉

Zumbo’s Just Desserts

This is a Netflix show that I stumbled upon and have been loving! I started it last week and am only 2 episodes away from finishing it. It’s an Australian baking competition that started with 12 contestants. Each contestant must make a dessert based on the day’s theme. There is a Dessert of the Day winner and then the two lowest for the day. The two lowest have to compete is what is called the Zumbo Challenge where they have to replicate a dessert that was created by Adriano Zumbo. It’s so much fun to watch and I always want to create some amazing dessert after each episode.

Salsa Verde

I originally bought this jar of salsa for the salsa verde honey lime chicken that I made a few weeks back for dinner. I still had salsa left so I kept dipping chips into it. Why I don’t buy salsa verde more is beyond me. It’s delicious!! I keep finding reasons to use it haha. Salsa verde is usually something I only have a restaurants but now I think it may become a staple in the fridge.
